RYA FISHING LICENCES & GUARDIA CIVIL
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR RYA AT THE CAPTAINS OFFICE LOS CRISTIANOS
Spanish registered boats operating under a RYA licence were not legal unless the licence had been verified by the Capitán.Bill distributed instructions to skippers on how to obtain this.
The Guardia Civil have been asking to see the certificates which show when fire extinguishers on board boats expire and he recommended that skippers ensure their equipment is up to date.
BOAT REGISTRATION -SSR
RYA Licences and Guardia Civil
If you are operating a Spanish registered boat on your RYA licence the Guardia Civil will prosecute you for operating the boat illegally. This is easily avoided by obtaining permission to operate under your RYA licence from the Capitan’s Office in the port at Los Christianos. The office is located on the first floor above the ferry ticketing offices.
There is no charge for doing this all you need to do is take along your passport, NIE and RYA licence plus a photocopy of each. A verification certificate will then take about 3 weeks to arrive. Whilst this is not required for boats on an SSR registration it is a bit of a grey area and the Guardia Civil have been known to ask for sight of permission, even though not strictly required, so for peace of mind why not get it done anyway.
